Putera Sampoerna Foundation Scholar Club

The Putera Sampoerna Foundation continues to develop and maintains its relationship with its scholarship recipients by gathering the scholars within the same region through its Sampoerna Foundation Scholars Club (SFSC). This acts as a channel for both the undergraduate and graduate scholars to develop their social responsibility towards their communities and to express their uniqueness, individuality, inspiration and creativity within a strong group of like-minded Foundation scholarship recipients. Currently, there are SFSC’s in six cities: Aceh, Bandung, Jakarta, Jogjakarta, Surabaya and Semarang. These SFSC’s are run by the scholars themselves each with an independent leadership and unique culture. The long term goal is for SFSC to become an independent, established, well-known and respected social organization within each region with strong ties to the Putera Sampoerna Foundation, and to be recognized as responsible and contributing members of the community.

One of the key activities of the SFSCs is to conduct sustainable social activities twice a year, whereby the members of the SFSC are expected to plan, design and implement a social or community outreach activity using guidelines from the Foundation, with the objective of benefit to the community. Through such activities, the scholars are expected to develop a level of social awareness and sensitivity towards people, the community and their surroundings. This also encourages proactive, problem solving, so that they find solutions and ways to solve social issues and problems facing their communities, even if it is in a small way. These social activities focus on key areas such as education, health, environment, culture, and entrepreneurship.

The SFSCs also learn about fundraising activities in order to garner support and financial assistance for their activities. The fundraising serves to promote financial independence, encourage entrepreneurship and increase the awareness of the public.

By promoting and participating in the SFSC, these scholars continue to develop their leadership, character and social responsibility in order give back to society and to make a difference together.
